Web Survey Bibliography
The use of multi-mode collection in Statistics Canada surveys, particularly the recent use of self-administered Internet questionnaires, raises new challenges. To ensure that the information collected meets our quality requirements, special care must be taken in the development of the conceptual framework for the creation of these questionnaires so that it takes into account the design, the testing procedures and the collection application. A corporate Internet questionnaire solution that includes the development of standard processes for the rendering of the Internet questionnaire (specifications and questionnaire generation) is currently being explored and developed.
This paper provides a brief overview of the corporate initiative especially as it relates to the collection business architecture. The paper will also cover the establishment and implementation of guidelines and standards for electronic questionnaires at Statistics Canada: how the existing guidelines were developed, how they are continuing to evolve, and what possible future directions might be. Finally, the paper will illustrate some findings from preliminary Internet questionnaire usability tests with business survey respondents as well as discuss how findings from these can be used to assist the evolving guidelines and standards.
